Did you ever wonder what happens to companies that get arrogant or fat? All you have to do is remember IBM or DEC. Oh you don’t?
It’s called innovation. What’s gets in the way of innovation? Leaders who lack leadership. What do they do? They spend too much time worrying about their competition inside their organization and forget the competition is across the street, outside their company…not inside!
The silos you create…destroy your company. And how does that affect us? Simple. Outlook is almost antiquated. Wonder why? Gmail. Developers become arrogant. Microsoft released Internet Explorer BETA onto the globe and crashed our computers. Are you taking any chance on Internet Explorer again? Firefox ate Microsoft’s lunch. Now, this is a brilliant lesson of what not to do in business. Do your OWN due diligence.
The lack of integrity and arrogance Microsoft demonstrated was astounding…
So next time you think the ego arguement is so important with the guy next to you…remember Plaxo takes too long to bother with. Linkedin works. Gmail doesn’t crash. Microsoft makes mistakes. Incumbency is meaningless.
Customers and clients demand integrity. Sooner or later, your business practices catch up to you. You need to ask yourself this question…is your ego compromising your bottom line? Is that economic reality something you can afford to live with? If you think there is no economic reality married to ego…remember Joe Berardino, former CEO of Arthur Anderson. He brought down Arthur Anderson in his second Congressional Hearing. I remember it well and predicted Arthur Anderson’s demise that day. All he needed to do was admit their errors in judgment and accept responsibility. Integrity, innovation and ego. All components of success.
The question is, is your ego getting in the way of authentic teamwork and cementing everyone’s economic future? Could you work together better as a team, check your ego at the door and create a world class product for your customers?

I agree 110% Ev!
Microsoft has for Years upon Years shovelled their Crappy software down the throats of Consumers + more importantly the Users (yeah the poor Blokes that actually have to use the Crap!!)
I am forever grateful to Google + Firefox + Mozilla + all the small Web2.0 companies who have Freed us all from the Shackles of Monopolistic MicroSoftPOOP*

Thank you Billy. I was just checking my spam comments…you should have seen who they were from…you would have loved it, talk about crap! Now if we could get Firefox to clean up their act…then we would all be happy!

Oh, and Billy, thanks for agreeing with me. I think I scare others who don’t agree away. Is it my rational thought process?

Ev
what a great post, but how come you haven’t been battered by the Microsoft bigots.
I’ve been into computers since the late 70’s and never been satisfied, or comfortable until I woke up, bought a Mac and installed Firefox.
Of course there’s a whole list of other dinosaurs you could have listed – I just can’t remember who they were

Yeah I loath MicroPOOP with a Passion! What makes me ill too is the way Big Corporations continue to Buy into this Crap year after year – Sickening*
They don’t give a Flying Fart about the People Working for them who actually have to Use that Crap to get their Work done. It’s a Safe Choice – but by no means the Best Choice. Apple is nothing to write Home about either – Overpriced crap as swell!!
